We've had a 3d printer at work for some time. its a powder type media that doesn't do well except for high reasolution and high color resolution. We then recently pruchased an Airwolf 3d printer because it makes more functional parts. Since then I've been aware that I really need a 3d printer for the house. But I don't want to drop 4k or 1k for that matter to get a decent one. I did some deep research. thankfully there is a company that sells a kit that you assembly for 300 bucks that will print PLA and ABS (abs is a must because of it higher temp threshold for part i print for the car). I decided what the hell. for 300 I'll try it.

I'm very happen so far. just because I can print whatever I want within it capabilities. I've only been playing around with PLA but even still I've gotten lots of good prints from it. ABS is the next step. I've purchased some abs and will be trying it out soon.

The next thing is to start making V6F-body stuff with it. any ideas are welcome. Keep in mind single color objects.

I think the first thing im going to try it to print the berger panel letters. I found someone that made models of them already :D

That is a great idea! I'll try to set aside some time to see what I can model for that. I guess the first question, which logo? I like our t shirt logo. but we also have the badge at the top of the site. and that can be with or without the trim.

Nice! My fiance is a Dr who fan... We started watching it and I enjoy it but she's pretty crazy about it.

I'd lean towards the tshirt logo. But im biased cause it has the Thirdgen bodylines.

A Third gen and Fourth gen "hot wheels car" looking Camaro/Firebird/and/or Trans Am keychain, with the logo visible on the side.

That'd be one of my spitballs. Not sure if you imagine it the same as me but hopefully.

yeah I like the decal/tshirt logo myself as well. At some point I think I may switch the banner to some variant of that.

But back to the printer i'm going to work on a badge with that logo on it or in it. I'll need to order some colors other than black to have the inlay a different color.

Any new printing?

been in mexico for a week and a half so nothing new really. the last thing I printed was for the Racing Drone. I'm back home now so I have to get my routine back on track. my office is a mess lol.

Hopefully going to order some color filament for the printer soon and get to trying out the dual color switch overs. Its kinda hard when its a single head but there is a setting to pause the print at a certain layer. then i switch the filament and keep printing. we will see what i come up with.

John also mentioned a very good idea to try and that would be 3rd brake light covers. let me know if that it something you guys would want.

wchiarizzio

Hell yea I'll take one for the third brake light, if you make a third gen run of them.

The Keychain looks like it'll come out nice

it should be pretty easy to model for 3rd and 4th gens. i'll have to find a 3rd gen to measure. maybe someone has it modeled already somewhere.

Unfortunately I don't have an extra third light. Though maybe I could take measurements of mine for you. Just let me know which ones you need. There is a pretty good curve in it though.

Camaro, Firebird and Trans Am covers would be pretty cool. I'm sure you could sell the crap out of them.

How strong are these pieces?

xpbr2000
10-21-2016, 11:06 AM
this one is pretty strong. and abs is pretty flexible before it actually will break.

FDM 3d printing has its weaknesses.

but I've learned a little bit about print direction to improve the strength on some parts.

what are thinking about. I can print something and show you how strong it is.

I'll pull mine and get a pic of the side profile with the curve I was talking about.

yeah if i can get a pic of the curve perfectly from the side i can scale it with the dimensions and get really close to the actual size.

the further away you are from it the less perspective skew gets in the picture but it also reduces the quality of the photo in the process.

they shouldn't be much on amazon or something. if i need to get one to model it

wchiarizzio
10-21-2016, 05:11 PM
You could probably just do a JY pull tbh.

actually i could probably model it from those pics pretty damn close. If i happen to run by a JY i'll see if there are any sitting out there. but in this area junk yards are few and shit for selection. i have to go to memphis or something to find decent selection and deals. local yard wanted 500 for a LSD rear. and they specialize in having fbodys. Lol. That's pretty comical. By me there are usually good deals in Orlando or Tampa. With some decent yards in between

yeah i justified buying a rear in GA (4 hour drive) and still saved money over buying it local rofl!

Yea, that aluminum DS I picked up from Orlando was pretty much the same. Guy was saying it'd take $50+ to ship, so I said F that I'll pick it up lol.
