Default The new car

Hey guys so its been a while since ive posted any updates so i figure that since i now have a vehicle worth posting about i would. So this all started after i sold my truck, which i didnt want to but it just felt like i was paying to fix the last persons mistakes which is usually fine if they are small but it was a big problem after another. So the wife and i decided to cut our vehicle debt in half and trade it in for a $3,000 grand am. It was a great car. it got me from point A to point B but after a year i just wanted out of the damn thing. Up untill the grand am all my cars were fun to drive. This one was just boring. So we were looking at prices to fly to the carolina's like we do every year to spent the holidays with her family and the prices for some reason were double what they used to be. We got to talking and she knew i hated my car and that some problems with it were going to start popping up soon. For the next few weeks i shopped around. She knows ive been wanting to get a firebird for a while but after talking she and i agreed that it was best to wait untill we have a house with a garage so i can have the garage to work on the firebird. Which im fine with. So i started to shop a round for something that would be fun to drive yet get good MPG. And i remembered that when the first cobalt ss's came out i really wanted one. After looking around i found an 07 at the local dealership and test drove it. I loved the hell out of it. I actually ran into the owner and found out what was done to it. Everything he did was what i was going to do, which would take the fun out of modding it but i looked at it as all the expensive stuff was done. I took the wife for a drive and we signed the papers, after all that the dealership came to us and told us that they forgot to inspect the car. So we left it for the day for them to do what they needed to do. This ended up turning into a week of arguing because they came up with a list of things they "thought" were wrong but with the research i had done on the car nothing was majorly wrong. So in the end it came down to them saying the car was not by "state law" safe to sell. And after a week we were just tired of it, so we let it go. So in the end we ended up going to carmax which was the best experience with any dealership we have ever had. We ended up shipping an 09 cobalt ss from virginia. And this car is just fun as hell to drive.

Here are some crappy pics. I should have some better one in a few days

lol yep thats my finger ruining the picture

So so far upgrades are:

- Intake
- GM stage one kit
- Tune

These mods are good for 300hp/310tq to the wheels. My goal for this car is to upgrade the intercooler, charge pipe, exhaust, and a more custom tune which will net me to around 400hp and over 400tq. the one thing i like about these cars is the little amount you can put into them and the huge gains they see from the mods.

I like the cobalts as well. they look like fun cars. and 300HP is some serious power for a 3000lb? car

very nice find. sucks about the other deal. Sounds like someone didn't want to sell the car. what all was done to it?

2926 lbs without me in it. The other car had intake, full exhaust, supercharger pully, custom tuned computer, bigger injectors, and a short throw. the bad part is that even with those it was right around the 300hp mark. The supercharged engines were really underpowered from the factory. I did end up checking the lot from time to time. They never put it on the lot. So it could be someone in back offered more. But coming from working at a dealership there is a line where its too modified and they just auction it off.

Good to see the Cobalt is working out for you. That status screen is interesting.

The LSJ had stock issues with the intercooler.

I forget the specifics, but I think from the factory GM messed up the lines, or installed some backwards. Make sure yours is working correctly before modifying the car lol

Direct injection and turbo goodness. The LNF is by far a much better engine than the supercharged LSJ. Good choice.

I'm sure you've been all over the Cobalt forums. But if not, there is a lot of good info to check out on there. Don't be surprised to find a few Saab-labeled parts in that engine bay either.
