Default 2006 Toyota Avalon

Wow, first thread in the Other Rides > Import forum!

Last week, after 7 years and 49K miles of faithful service carrying me to the airport, on road trips for work and serving beater duty when I did not want to drive my Firebird, it was time for me to retire the 1997 Olds LSS I bought from my local wholesale car reseller in the summer of 2007 with 167K miles.

I'm gonna miss that car, but my wife and kids were all too happy to see it go.

On the bright side it allowed us to get a good deal on this 2006 Toyota Avalon Limited.

It does have 118K miles but after getting a Toyota Owner account I found that it was meticulously maintained at the dealer for the first 90K+ miles by the original owner. There is a void between the second owner and me, but the dealer where I bought the car did a good job preparing it cosmetically and mechanically for sale. I do know they obtained it through auction, not trade-in.

The Avalon has the 3.5L V6 rated at 268 HP/248 Ft-Lbs mated to a 5-speed shiftable automatic. According to the manual and everything I read, it is perfectly fine to run Regular unleaded, but in order to get the best performance it does require Premium. Since it is a VVT-I motor, I suppose the computer can adust everything to take advantage of Premium.

It is a fairly well optioned Limited:
- Leather Seats
- Heated and Cooled Front Seats
- HID Headlamps with Auto-leveling
- Rain Sensing Windshield Wipers
- Navigation System (it is clearly early 2000's technology, but the other options that year for the slot in the dash were a cigarette lighter or a tape player so...).
- Full-size Spare Tire on a 5th matching alloy rim under the trunk floor
- The only major feature it does not have is Dynamic Laser Cruise Control

Hopefully the Avalon will last us 7-8 years. It is extremely quiet inside on the highway, the seats are very comfortable, the trunk is huge and the ride is smooth. I know better than to mention it and Lexus in the same sentence but for the money it seems to be a really nice car so far.

Yeah, the salesman was surprised how well the Olds ran and that the AC was cold considering how shitty the paint and interior are now.

Thanks for the compliment. It is the nicest vehicle we've ever owned.

Really though, a Toyota? Should have gotten an E class Benz or BMW 7 series... hell even an Audi A6 or A8 would be a lot sweeter.

Oh well, hopefully that Avalon doesn't give you problems...

I'll probably wait on a car like that until I can afford to lease and then give back to the dealer afterwards.

definitely! unless your going to own it the full period of the loan you will lose money on one every time. they hold value but you pay for it up front.

RIP. We got rear-ended on the way to GA during Thanksgiving.

We were at a dead stop on a 2-lane highway waiting for the car in front of us to make a left turn. The 95 year old lady in the Buick way behind me didn't see either of us.

I didn't want to post anything until everything went through insurance. They declared a total loss because the unibody structure under the rear seats was damaged. No injuries and we have 2 other vehicles so no rush to replace. The settlement was over the original purchase price so we came out ahead financially.

The only bad part is it was going to make it possible over Christmas vacation for me to do some of the mods I've put off on the Firebird. Someday I'll get to them...
