Default My Painting adventure begins...

Well instead of paying someone else to do a half-assed job for cheap, I figured I could at least do a half-assed job for free.
Or hopefully a good job that no one can tell the difference. I start by purchasing a HVLP paint sprayer. $50 (harbor freight is the shit) I know it isn't as good as those high dollar guns but i'm just getting started. plus this thing has a 2 yr replacement warr. ($10 extra) And my brothers glass shop has one that is never used anymore because they stop doing auto glass. He was going to check that one out. maybe I can get a nice gun as a freebee.

Here is the harbor freight gun. It comes with 2 guns. I also got a regulator and a inline dryer.

Oh Deebo, I found one of the two videos for you. I'm going to put it online for your viewing pleasure. Is that cool?

It's captured already. Let me whip up a quick menu tonight and I'll upload it as a Flash DVD thingy.

Be prepared. It's a very old dated video (the 1986 Mazda mini truck is a fun little ride and HVLP guns are a brand new technology) but the info is good.

Do you have a good compressor setup? I would say thats just as, if not more, important then the gun.

Yeah thats what I'm afraid of. I have access to a 20 or 30 gal compressor. But I don't know the specs on it. It ran the my sander ok. after about 5-10 min of sanding I had to let in catch back up. Its an older compressor probably doesn't get used much.

My brother gave me this gun from his shop since they don't do auto glass anymore.

Its a Finex FX200 by Sharpe. Best I can find this is not a HVLP sprayer. Sharpe lists it as a conventional sprayer. Help me out here. this harbor freight gun runs at 40 psi same as this one but harbor freight says its a HVLP sprayer. Should is hang on to the Harbor freight gun?

And just a note I only have a 1.4 tip for the Finex gun. a 1.8 tip is 30-40 buck lol. so buying the part for this freebee gun isn't going to help much. plus this thing needs to be cleaned out bad. What do I use to get this gunk out?

By my research a conventional sprayer (I think they also call it a reduced pressure sprayer) might paint better too, at the cost of material waste. it atomizes the paint better because of the higher pressure. might use the cheap gun to prime with and the better gun for base and clear?

Paint thinner is gonna be your best bet in cleaning that thing. I'd definitely keep that new kit handy if money allows. It also comes down to which one feels better in your hand when spraying....
