View Full Version : Low Oil Pressure...

Ok, here was the situation. I had recently replaced my rear main seal, as well as the lower intake manifold gasket.

Since then, my oil pressure has been 30 PSI at idle and between 35-40 PSI while driving.

On a hunch, I popped a new oil filter on and the pressure (at op temp) is about 45 PSI idle and hits 63-66 PSI at 2000+ RPM. Perfect. The problem is fixed.

Here's my question: Do you think the lower pressure was due to a reduced flow through the filter or do you think it was due to the oil bypassing the filter?

my vote would be damage/obstruction in the filter causing the lower pressure. dont suppose you still have it to perform some some surgery?

my guess would be the restriction of the filter

how old was this filter?

yup, there's your problem. Fram blows.

get a k&n gold class filter or mobil 1 filter and call it a day.

I actually have a Mobil 1 in the garage awaiting my next oil change... which should be about now.

I have never had a problem with fram

Nor have I. I've always used Fram. As a matter of fact, I replaced the defective one with another Fram.

I may try that K&N / synthetic deal Advanced is running. Might try synthetic now that my leaks are fixed.
