Does K&N make a cold air intake for the 96 3.8L? Mine is from Chrome Intakes. I could never find a K&N intake for it, just filter

nope, mines chromeintake as well, you can use the SLP kit, thats uses K&N filters, if you want to spend $300 on an inatke, that does the same thing as the chromeinatkes.

I have the k&n one, got it for 70 and then got a 1le lt1 elbow for 5 at the junkyard. Really there's no reason to get the k&n unless you get it for cheap.

is there a reason you can't adapt an newer 3.8L FIPK to the older ones? I'd see an issue with the MAF maybe but thats it I guess?

your hood won't clear the air box and lid on top of the radiator.

Also having the lid style with an angled TB is a huge pain.
