I know I need new filters, the ones in there are disgusting. But would it be worth it to put in some direct fit K&N filters? They're $60 for the both of them, the basic purolator ones are $16 for the both...pretty huge cost difference.

Will I gain a noticeable difference in gas mileage? I just want to keep it as smooth a ride as possible. Not really looking for performance. Im also replacing my fuel filter and doing an oil change within the next couple days. I went with AC Delco fuel and oil filters.

As in oil filters, air filters or what? I have a k&n air filter and I like it.

Air. My car takes two air filters.

Well the k&n will pay for its self in the long run if you clean them with the kit they sell, as far as a pick up in performance you probably won't notice a huge gain just that the motor is breathing better.

I have not seen a noticeable performance gain but the permanent filters are convenient if you keep vehicles for a long time.

They are good for people who live in really dusty areas, and change their air filters frequently. For a person who will probably only change a filter every other year, not worth it

I put a K&N air filter in my 3.8 camaro when it was time to replace the Fram air filter, the results were: mileage went up slightly from 17-18 (city) to 18.5-20 (city), highway went from 28.5 mpg to around 29-30 mpg, and i felt some power increase (not much, but noticeable) compared to before. I have to say it's worth the money.
