Cut a hatch over the tank. Much easier!
Some people get a little pissy about the "trap door" method, saying if gm wanted then they would have made it that way, but i have yet to see any harm in doing it. I would do it myself when i have to replace mine.
DAY 121:
Due to being unsuccessful at finding a friend with a shop and a car lift that could help me, I decided it's long over due. I'm pulling the motor!
I got a late start today but things went smoothly until I ran into a problem. The Brake line will not come loose. they are seized somehow. and I'm rounding off the hex???? Anyhow after that I decided it was late and time to get some rest.
I've disconnected the harness from the car & the steer column. Unbolted the AC compressor and moved it out of the way. Un done everthing on the front side of the motor (radiator hoses, Air box, fuel lines, etc.).
Tomorrow I will be unhooking the drive shaft, and the transmission support, etc. and hopefully drop out the motor..... sometime after i figure out how to disconnect my brake line without destroying them:dis:
If all goes well i'll be stripping the motor after i get it out painting the UIM and valve covers. replacing all the seals on the other motor, and assembling the motor until its ready to drop back in. :excited: I hope by next weekend :dood:. Then turn that ignition over and start that baby up. :gears:

Day 122:
I have successfully remove the motor from the car. It took me more than a few hours by my self but its done. This week i'll be stripping down the k member and getting the new motor ready to put back in next weekend. YES! :dood:
And I believe I'll be making a full write up specifically to 3.8's, with pics so we can sticky It.

wow that went quick, now you just gotta put it back together. I expect it running by the weekend :)
Yeah, I was very eager to get this done. The past four weeks i've been waiting patiently :excited:. Any who, I'll be giving the motor, trans, and under the hood a good washing. The blown head gasket has pour oil everywhere. The bottom was soaked. I'll be working on it all week. I'll give you an update when I got some good pics to show. :wavey:
Yeah well it better run by the weekend cause mine is, lol
