Since I decided to go forward with the building of this car, I figured I would start an official thread following the restoration and customization process.

I don't anticipate updating this thread too frequently, especially in the next year, as I really don't have anywhere to work on it. Actually the goal for 2009 is just to get it out of Ohio to prevent any further winter rusting.

Once my lease is up and we get our house, the real work will begin.

The Idea



This is an idea I've been playing around with. I'm sure by the time all is said and done, it will be something completely different.

Some of the things I want to do is:

• 2 or 3 inch lowering
• 17" or larger rims
• 5 lug conversion
• Disc brake conversion
• Turbocharged engine
• High end stereo integrated stereo install (4 10's perhaps?)
• Leather interior

The Way I Found Her



Here she is... the day we met.

• 1973 Karmann Ghia
• 49,000 original miles
• Runs well
• Some rusting from 36 years of northern life

I've got my work cut out for me, but overall not in bad shape. We'll see how she looks after deconstruction and media blasting.

Well, doesn't look like 2009 will be a Ghia year. I just put her in a garage for the winter. Maybe next year.
