    Default 93-97 headlight motor Repair

    This is a little guide to show some of you hoe to replace and fix your headlight motors when they go bad, and save you money.

    What you will need.
    Two 10 MM wrenches
    A good flat tip screw driver.
    Some sandpaper.
    C clamps.

    These are the wrenches I used, one is a gear wrench.


    Unplug the wiring harness


    These are the three bolts that hold the motor on. (note there is a nut on the shaft the holds the operating arm)



    You may need to move the headlight up or down to help you remove the bolts.


    After you have removed the motor take it to where you will do the repair. Find a good flat tip screw driver and start working the cover loose. carefull and dont stab yourself.


    once it starts coming apart, work it around to not break the cover.




    As you can see bad gear.


    Be sure to get all trash from the gear out, as you can see the teeth from the plastic gear.


    The Kit, this kit came from rodneydickman.com and is a really good kit. and come with great instructions.


    Clean the shaft the best you can for repair.


    You may have to clamp down on the motor housing, after a period of time they loosen up.


    Use the grease in the kit and lube up the motor.


    And the gear, rub your finger arond the gear to spread grease.


    In stall gear and use the rest of the lube and lube the shaft.


    use the sand paper to clean the edges for glue.


    Mix together with stick.


    apply with stick.


    use C clamps to hold while glue cures, i let mine hold for around 10 hours then reinstall back on car.

    And now it as good as new.

    Definitely gonna use this when the Firebirds go.

    nice! any idea how to adjust them? when my lights are down one side sits higher than the other.

    Hmmm, not really sure. There may be some bumper stops that the head light rest on when its fully down. I have never paid attention to see if there was, so I'm just guessing. If that's not the case check the hardware that mounts the cover on and make sure nothing's loose. I had to tighten mine up before.

    Not meaning to revive a thread from the dead....but while this is already a GREAT writeup....there is one thing that I'd like to add to it. Once you remove the operating arm from the motor shaft, I found it makes life alot easier if you tie up the headlight door with a bungee cord or a piece of cord. I usually just take a bungee, hook it to the front of the door and the other end to the hood strut. Its very helpful when you need that 3rd hand.
