    Default Jazstott's 3.4/3400 hybrid

    Hello All!
Starting my own thread on my build. I have a 1995 Chevrolet Camaro 3.4L standard transmission. Donor engine is a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am 3400. I have pictures but not sure how to insert into thread. I have torn down & cleaned the 3.4 block, honed the cylinders. Installed new gallery plugs, core plugs, crankshaft from 3400, new main bearings, rods & pistons from the 3400, new rings, new rod bearings, new camshaft(204/214 @ .050 dur, valve lift .421/.444), new cam bearings... and that's where I'm at currently. I have 1 3400 head apart & partially cleaned... I got the camshaft from A.R.I. engines, do y'all think it will perform well for a streetable build? Do I need to get stiffer valve springs or will the 3400 beehives suffice? Also, behind the oil filter adapter plate there is a check valve... is there supposed to be a ball bearing in that? Thank you for letting my get my build going on this forum.

I tried photobucket link for pics, not sure if it worked. If it did the white camaro isn't mine, lol, that's how I want to paint it after engine rebuild is done.

I've made a thread explaining how bb code works specifically for pictures.

    See this thread

In short if you get the IMG code from photobucket you just paste it into your thread without using the buttons

    thanks for posting you progress.

    I'd go with stiffer springs.

Which Cam are you looking at. Some are streetable.

It's all good, I'm going with it, just curious what performance gains to expect... & if I need to get stiffer springs for the lift on it...

If i can remember... the most lift your going to be able to safely use is arround .500 Not really alot but i think its more like .550 but would have to look that info back up and dont want to tell you mis information.

To be honest here, i have a delta 260 cam in my hybrid set up. I have the stock behive springs. I really need to get different springs before i get a bigger cam but Im using the stock 1.6 rockers and heres the cam card so you can see the total lift. (keep in mind the cam card is based on 1.5 ratio rockers for the stock 3.1L)

Id say keep it under .500 lift and the rpm under 6500 and you will be fine. But then again i have spun 7k rpm a few times this year with no issues but thats knocking on wood too as it was accident.

To be sure look at 60degreev6 for more info as it will have all the numbers either in a thread or stickyed area.

EDIT: Disregard the top post. I got some numbers for you on stock springs.

    Stock
    1.7" 78#
    1.3" 157#
    Coil Bind 1.230

so you have .470 of movement there. Minus a .010 for safety and you have .460 of safe lift you can get out of those stock springs.

Mine come to the same .470 of movement and .465 is my higher of the 2 lifts. So im barley....on the safe side.

On that cam you got, was the lift numbers based on a 1.6 rocker?

Thanks for the info fasteddi! I'm not sure what the lift #'s were based on, but the guy on the phone said it would work as long as I had 1.6 rockers. Attached below is the specs on the box of the camshaft. Where it says valve lift .421, .444 is what I assume the lift will be? If so, the beehive springs should do just fine I would think, well below the above said maximum, if I'm understanding correctly. Please let me know what you think...
