So, the number of bolts (i.e. 10 bolt) refers to the number of bolts attaching the ring gear to the carrier. Is that correct?

Yes. It is in fact not the bolt count for the cover.

How did that axle turn out?

I've seen welding of the tubes before on YouTube but i thought it was not possible to weld cast iron. How are people doing it?

Current rear had some very poorly installed 3.73s and is whining like crazy and I don't trust it.

Part of it is preheating the cast. It's solid so the welding itself will not create the needed heat to properly penetrate, leading to a weak weld/blowing through the axle tube trying to create the heat needed without preheating.

Yeah I've heard something about that before. Using a torch with the pre heating tip?

I saw that procedure on a YouTube video. Good luck with it. Let us know how it turns out!

I heard the Dynamic EFI guy say you gotta be careful with the higher drive shaft speeds....

you dont want anything more than 3.73 anyway. you highway driving will suck and first gear will be really short. Bone had 3.73 and it was border line rough with normal driving. the snap at launch was pretty fun though. freakv6 had 4.10 and it was too much rpm with normal driving.

i like my 3.42 i think that is a good starting point. 3.73 will be more fun & 4.10 just wild
