Great minds think alike! I was showing my neighbor the engine (pics coming soon) in the back of the truck and told him that I will no doubt have to fab my own headers!

It looks like the block will probably fit- it will be a tight squeeze though. I need to take a tape measure to it. Worst case scenario, I will put the L67 in the Maro and the Shortstar in the Cavy.

It's a 90 degree block, but so are all the 3.8s so the clearance should be adequate...

    I fixed it.

In photobucket you have to use the link to the right (if youre on PC) One says IMG code. just copy and paste that (do not use the image button)

or copy the direct link and use the image button either way works.

You can't copy the address bar when linking images unless the URL is a direct link

it does look a little wide but the headers are half built into the heads by the look of it.

Thank you for the help! I appreciate your support of this project too!
I took LOTS of pics the other day. I will put them up. Most of them anyway.
Well, the heads are REALLY wide, but I think it will still clear. The headers are a direct bolt-on type. Basically tubular exhaust manifolds. I will look into seeing if something else will fit, but I'm basically planning to cut and weld it to turn down instead of up. Not sure how to make the back one fit. I hope that I can get another front one for the back, but the heads have different casting numbers. There is actually a left and a right. Hope this doesn't get TOO complicated. The water/EGR crossover might not clear the firewall and I can't just flip it to the "front" because the heads are one-way only. Also, I might find trouble turning the intake manifold. It looks like a one piece plastic manifold!

Here are some pics from when I just got it home...

Interesting patterns in the block. I wonder if they are stiffeners?

    It was pretty dirty!

    Oh that's nasty

There. That's better. It's starting to clean up a little...
It's easier to see what the hell I'm looking at now! LOL

^^^Note the Camaro in the background anxiously awaiting the new powerplant!

I banged it up a little getting it out. I'm sure that motor went in from the bottom. HA!
I took the A/C compressor with it too, I needed one anyway.

This is another one of my MANY concerns... Will I EVER find a flywheel that will fit this crank???
Gotta keep the T5! It's gonna be a tight fit with that starter and the clutch slave fighting over the same space...

    This thing is huge!

There is the dreaded water/EGR crossover pipe. Just behind the exhaust crossover.

It's a lot cleaner now, I need to get it into the garage and see what I'm working with.

I have two schools of thought at this point. No matter what, I'll put some clean oil in it and run a compression test and check the timing chain tensions.
If those are reasonable, do I just try to put it in at that point? Or do I go through the entire motor checking bearing tolerances and re-ring it? That's and awful lot of work to go through if I find out later that it won't fit due to the water/EGR crossover...
