    Default Cam questions

Hey there everyone, I have a few quick questions

Has anyone had a custom grind cam on their 3800 with a lot of duration?

The cams zzp has seem quite small to me(none have either duration over 224)

Having been researching cam/head combos for my ls1 I've noticed even the baby cams have 218+ duration on intake and usually more on exhaust. IE 228/228 or 228/230.

I wonder how a cam speced as such would perform in the 3800?

Just a thought I had in mind. Idk if there's a reason why no one does this?

John has a large cam for his. I forget the specs but its lift is pretty high. idk about the duration. Its also not installed yet so idk how much that helps.

    i'm running a gt2 which is only 216/216

I've learned that duration is key, and more lift isn't always going to make more power.

Also which john? We've had like 5 >__<

I personally would like to see a cam duration in the 300's, to give it a nice lope. however I don't think the 3800's can go that extreme. correct me if I'm wrong.

I've never seen a cam with such duration, if I ever get another 3800 car I wanna get a custom grind 228/228 cam. Or something huge that needs valve reliefs cut into the pistons. Speaking of which I've never seen anyone fly cut pistons on a 3800 either, which is fairly common in the ls1 world.

I just think there's a lot of potential that everyone is overlooking left in the 3800s

there is potential but most people that do that want HP. and 3800 just doesn't get as much HP for the cost as an LS1
