Mine wouldn't even start on a mail order tune, it's taken lots of tuning to get to run good like it does now.
And not be that guy, but if I could go back I would have never done the cam. Just not worth it at the end of the day.

i still run my mail order tune. I got it from the same place as kris. Kris's problem Came from their bench cable was faulty. And to reflect what Kris said I have the same set up nearly exact and Mine ran no problem even on the stock PCM with no changes. So there are horror stories with anything. that should not discourage you from doing it

I run a mail order tune, GT2 cam, 90# spings, stock chain, stock pushrods and lifters. This setup has been problem free for 3 years now.

Wow, I hope this build doesn't fail, that would be a truly discouraging blow.

I am surprised the 90# springs will work with the GT2 Cam... unless ZZP exaggerated their description of the Cam. On their website, it says you would want to run 125# springs or higher with the GT2 Cam. There site also says...

"If you run any valve spring with over 105# of seat pressure, it will require a Rollmaster double roller timing chain"

Which is why I bought the double chain.

    I hope I didn't waste a ton of money buying parts I didn't need

the gt2 cam is made to work with stock components. single roller and 75# springs.

Now what that means you can't rev as high without problems, to get higher rpm range you need heavier springs. i got 90# just to help with performance at higher rpm. you on the other hand are going for a robust setup that will have no problems at high rpm. the heavier spring will keep all the valve where they are supposed to be when they are suppose to be there lol. double roller is just required to keep from snapping a chain. when i SC mine i'll be stepping up the lbs on my springs and double roller myself. Mine was a budget build when i cam'd unfortunately. I don't think you wasted money personally.

although I'm still concerned about the timing cover and that double roller.

How ever you want to look at, you'll end up regretting it later on. It was a nice reliable dd or weekend driver at the time, now it's a gas hog with hardly any power difference to back up the crap gas mileage. My wife's 4 cylinder terrain has more go and no driveable issues.

I also run on stock tune for 6 months, better than the mail order ever did, and they tried 3 different tunes before giving me a refund.

Ok, cool. I do like to redline the gears a lot, so hopefully I will be set!

I did send an email to ZZP about the double roller and there being some doubts about it fitting properly. They wrote back and said that it will be a direct fit for my car. I hope that ends up being true. Once I get to that part of the build, I will fill you guys in on what happens.

I'm getting back into the garage tonight to get started on the lower intake removal. The end of the work day can't get here soon enough!

BTW, what is a Bench Cable? Is that something the mail order tuning guys use?

It's how they plug your pcm in to be tuned. They no longer even offer it for 97, cause of all the problems and limited tuning available.

Search fullthrottlev6 and firebirdv6 you'll find all the info on the double chain.

yes since they dont interface through the obd2 port they have to connect directly to the pcm. the cable is probably custom built for that pcm type.
