Maybe the part I think is the air silencer is not the air silencer at all? I thought it was the mesh plate covering the throttle body intake. Is that something different?

better air flow would be the only benefit.
the downside is that the "gargle" is heard quite a bit more without it.

Wow, that sounds gets worse?! That's one of the reasons I was trying to do the delete it in the first place, I thought it was the reason my air intake sounded like it was trying to gargle an ocean. But Kris was right, I don't have one on mine.
